A total of 250 households from Rivers View and Falmouth, Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice) benefited from COVID-19 relief as the Ministry of Local Government ramps up distribution.
During the distribution exercise, Regional Executive Officer (REO), Kerwin Ward, explained that the Ministry of Local Government requested that hampers be distributed to residents in an effort to cushion the adverse effects of COVID-19 on the community.
Some of the items included in the hampers were food items and sanitisers, which is expected to last for one month.
Receiving on behalf of the two sister villages were Toshao, Kenneth Edwards, of Rivers View, and Deputy Toshao with Responsibility for Falmouth, Savory Braithwaite.
The two villages are among those in the Bartica area that is severely affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. Though they are both located within the geographic boundary of Region Ten, they regularly benefit from Region Seven due to their location close to the town of Bartica.
Earlier in the month, hampers were also provided for other villages as they became hotspots for COVID-19 infections.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The funds used to secure these hampers by the Ministry of Local Government are from taxpayers’ monies.
