Whenever he finds spare time to glide his paintbrush across a piece of canvas, better believe he does. 20-year-old Akeem Hartman has been one of the most sought-after portrait artists and is creating waves on social media with his paintings and drawing.

Akeem recalled that since the age of 5-year-old, he has always had a passion for the creative industry. In fact, the bubbly young man is not only known for his great portrait drawings. But it is also an excellent craftsman.
I am one who is passionate about my different styles, especially drawings, leathercraft, and tattoos that sometimes I don’t know what I am drawing but I draw. It is something I can’t live without. It’s my life.
The young man further added that he draws inspiration from his family. He shared that his mother has been the driving force behind his career.
They are very supportive and encourage me every day. Whenever I post my work, I would often receive countless compliments. People would often share my work with other persons, some of whom I have done drawings for.
But like any other industry, the young artist said that becoming a professional artist in Guyana is very difficult, given that it is very competitive with limited opportunities.
We do not have the financial support; we need the right persons who are able to set us on track and show us the pros and cons of it and how it can be beneficial.
Akeem attended the E.R. Burrowes School of Arts and hopes that his pieces will inspire upcoming artists to pursue their dreams.

Apart from Maya Angelo, Akeem admires the late Black Panther Star Chadwick. He drew a portrait of him that created a storm on Facebook.
First of all, let me say rest in peace to Chadwick, who had extraordinary talent. Sorry to see that he died too early, but his life made a difference. The feedback was great, and I did not expect it, but it is good to know that people acknowledge my work, and I am very appreciative and thankful.
The young man attributes his success and fame to his family and friends.
