The Atta Rainforest Lodge is completely surrounded by tropical rainforest which offers a total immersion in the rainforest experience. To be in the midst of such fresh greenery is a goal for many nature lovers. Towering trees and grassy lawns are a great attraction when visitors come to the Atta Lodge; they are sure to enjoy their stay. The main building is open sided with views across the gardens to the towering forest on all sides. This building houses the bar, dining area and kitchen.
Facilities At The Atta Rainforest Lodge
- Rooms – There are eight rooms with attached bathrooms. Each roomy bathroom is fitted with a flush toilet and wash basin.
- Bar – The Parrot-A-Fly Bar stocks local and imported beer, spirits and wines which can be enjoyed by the bar or in the shade of the gardens. The bar top is made from a huge slab of Wamaradan (Dicorynia guianensis).
- Dining – The dining area is adjacent to the bar and encourages communal dining so that you can get to know your fellow adventurers.
- Food – Meals are freshly prepared local delicacies of free range beef, chicken and fish. Vegetarians are catered for as well as other special diets. You get three home-cooked meals per day.
- Kitchen – Guyanese cuisine may vary from what you are used to at home, so you are free to pop in the kitchen and see how and what meals are being prepared!
- Wi-Fi – There is free Wi-Fi in the main building.

Activities At The Atta Rainforest Lodge
- Canopy Walkway – This can be easily schedule during your stay at the Atta Lodge. Normally there is a visit that leaves Atta Lodge before dawn so that you can welcome the dawn chorus from the canopy. Then again as the afternoon cools you can return to the walkway to experience night falling and the canopy after dark. Additional visits are available outside these scheduled trips. All visitors to the walkway are accompanied by Canopy Walkway Specialists.
- Wildlife and Birdwatching Walks – You can enjoy these walks on the trail around the area. For those interested in botany many of the trails have the key tree species marked.
- Night Walks – Veteran guide Leon Moore really made 2012 special for dozens of guests who were able to spot numerous jaguars along the transnational road near the lodge.
- Explore – You can explore the surrounding rainforest by foot, canoe or 4by4.
- Flora and Fauna – The forest around the walkway contains some important flora and fauna. Among these are endangered and protected species such as the jaguar, the bullet wood tree, greenheart and the wamaradan (endemic in Guyana only to the Iwokrama Forest).
Tip:
- The Iwokrama River Lodge, Rock View Lodge, and Surama Eco Lodge are all within an hour or two of the Atta Lodge.
- There is a fabulous Guianian Cock-of-the-rock lek where conservation efforts have led to a nearly 100% sighting rate.
The Atta Rainforest Lodge
The lodge is centrally located along the main Rupununi Road that crosses through the Iwokrama Rainforest. The Iwokrama Canopy Walkway and Atta Rainforest Lodge are jointly operated by the Amerindian community of Surama, Rock View Lodge, the Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Wilderness Explorers.

The Atta Rainforest Lodge is situated approximately 500 metres from the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway. There are three building at the Atta Lodge. The main building is thatched and open-sided, which has views across the gardens to the towering forest on all sides, houses the lounge, dining area, bar, gift shop, collection of natural history books, and the lawn out front is illuminated by candles during the evening. The other two houses the accommodation and are brick and tiled cottages.
The Atta Lodge offers an unforgettable experience to its visitors. The facilities along with the many activities are there to highlight and brighten your stay to best of its abilities. Many find enjoyment in the night walks as well as the massive Canopy Walkway that introduces ones to the many beautiful flora and fauna in Guyana. Some are contented with the pleasure of seeing the lush greenery, the mighty trees and the majesty of the rainforest. They use the time to read, draw, paint, capture pictures, and look for insects and various flowers and plant species. The surrounding leaves them in awe as they see how much the rainforest of Guyana has to offer.
