The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) has received the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) from the Airports Council International, Latin America, and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC). CJIA is the second airport in the Caribbean to obtain the accreditation.

Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, said that this accreditation is a testimony of the airport’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing health and safety measures for all travelers and employees in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As we continue to battle against the Coronavirus, it is important that we restore confidence by assuring all, including the travelling public, that their health and safety remain our no.1 priority.”
He also expressed gratitude to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, Ministry of Health, and all other stakeholders for their contributions towards this effort.
Director-General of ACI World, Luis Felipe de Oliveira said, after reviewing the health and safety measures, in place, at CJIA, ACI/AHA is confident that these efforts will succeed in achieving this common goal.
“Your airport has shown that it is providing a safe airport experience for all travelers, which is in line with the recommended health measures, established internationally.”
The Airport Health Accreditation programme was launched in July 2020 by the Airports Council International (ACI) to assist airports by assessing new health measures and procedures introduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This process is especially important as it seeks to reassure the travelling public that the airport facilities remain safe and that precautions are being taken to reduce any risk to their health.

The ACI Airport Health Accreditation programme also provides airports with an assessment of how aligned their health measures are compared to the ICAO Council Aviation Recovery Task Force (CART) recommendations and industry best practices.
