General Information
Tipuru Village is the oldest village in the Karasabai sub-district. The village is located in Region 9 and it is approximately 15 miles from Karasabai. Historically, Tipuru has been a battle ground during the tribal wars. It possesses many battle group sites or sacred sites. Today, however, the people are friendly and welcoming to outsiders.
The number of residents is approximately 330 with about 45 households. According to the MOIPA, the current Toshao is Stanley Jacobs.
Like Karasabai, the first language of the village is Makushi and the second language is English. The major religious practice is Christianity.
Infrastructure
The village remains underdeveloped due to the geographical location between the mountains. The roads are simply trails that run throughout the village. Travelers to other villages deeper into the North Pakaraimas are required to pass through Tipuru.
Tipuru has a Nursery and Primary school. There is a Health Post with one community health worker and malaria personnel.
The main water sources are from wells and a creek in the village. There is also a community shop, a village office, a community market building and a church.
The main source of electricity in the area is solar energy. There is no mobile-phone communication. The only means of communication is by two-way radio to Lethem and Karasabai.
