The soothing effect of sitting near a waterfall is alluring. The sound of the waters gushing down and splashing across huge rocks calms you and gives you a mental picture of serenity. One of the most beautiful falls found in Guyana is the Kumu Falls; the feeling that one takes away from visiting this tranquil place can last for a lifetime.

The Road To Kumu

Where Is The Kumu Falls Located?

Kumu Falls is located in the Village of Kumu, a satellite community of St Ignatius Village. Kumu is a quiet, close-knit village of approximately 400 persons, mainly of the Macushi tribe. Some of the homes are built of concrete and zinc but most are built of mud-brick with thatched-roofs. These houses are usually found scattered across the community.

Tip: To enter the falls, a fee has to be paid and rules are implemented so that visitors can be monitored.

Things To Do At The Kumu Falls

  • Relax: Enjoy your favorite beverage while you sit in the cool, shallow waters of the river. You can splash around and have fun with family in the clean, flowing water.
  • Boulders: The large rocks are strong and sturdy enough for you to sit, stand or even lie down on them. You can lie there and take in the fresh, cool atmosphere whilst feeling rejuvenated as the water gives you a body massage.
  • Picnic: There is a camping and picnic ground at the base if you desire to cook your own food. This area is excellent for family bounding time and for everyone to enjoy freshly cooked meals.
  • Food: If you do not want to cook, you can order a local pepperpot prepared on location.
  • Scenery: The different shades of greenery and the various sizes of trees – some short, some tall – all add to the amazing scenery of this beautiful place. The white, clear water against the brownish rocks is a sight to behold. As you gaze upon it, you will see that it is a plus for peace of mind and freedom from the busyness of everyday life.
