Is Hibiscus Oil The NEXT Coconut Oil?

Hibiscus is a genus of summery plants native to Guyana, with numerous species and a wide variety of colours. Apart from being used as decoration, the plants have many benefits, especially the Hibiscus Oil obtained from them.  Hibiscus Oil, also known as gudhal oil is typically extracted from the flowers and leaves of the Hibiscus (rosa-sinensis) plant. While Hibiscus Oil is typically manufactured and bottled in factories, it can be homemade. The use of Hibiscus Oil poses many health benefits, especially to hair. Some people consider Hibiscus Oil the “new” coconut oil due to its numerous health benefits. Read on to find the many benefits of the oil and how to make it.

What is Hibiscus Oil?

Hibiscus oil is simply an oil that is extracted from the Hibiscus (rosa-sinensis) plant. Typically it is extracted from the leaves and flowers of Hibiscus plants.

Health Benefits Of Hibiscus Oil

  1. Adds A Brilliant Shine To Hair – You hair receives a magnified sheen when you use Hibiscus Oil in a deep conditioning hair oil or in a homemade hair mask. Your hair will also be much softer to the touch!
  2. Helps Reduce Dandruff – Hibiscus Oil is a rich source of Vitamin A and C and in alpha hydroxy acids and as a result, it may help to reduce dandruff, and a dry, flaky scalp. In addition, a hot oil massage will help to relieve dryness and control itching.
  3. Increases Hair Growth – Collagen production is boosted by the amounts of  Vitamins A and C in the oil, thus allowing your hair to grow longer. When Hibiscus Oil is mixed with coconut and castor oil and massaged regularly in an overnight treatment, it helps the oil to nourish your scalp and softens your hair.

How to make Hibiscus Oil

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 8 hibiscus flowers
  • 8 hibiscus leaves

Method

  1. Grind Hibiscus leaves and flowers into a fine paste.
  2. Heat the coconut oil then add the Hibiscus paste.
  3. Stir and allow to warm for a few minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and leave to cool.
  5. After cooling, the Hibiscus Oil is ready!
  6. Apply to scalp and massage into for about ten (10) minutes.
  7. Leave in for thirty (30) minutes.
  8. Wash hair in lukewarm water with a mild shampoo.

Hibiscus Oil For Dandruff

Ingredients

  •  3 tbsp ground hibiscus leaves
  • 1 tbsp. powdered fenugreek seeds
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk

Method

  1. In a bowl thoroughly mix 3 tbsp ground hibiscus leaves, 1 tbsp. powdered fenugreek seeds.
  2. Add 1/4 cup buttermilk and mix.
  3. Apply the mixture to hair and massage gently into.
  4. Leave for one hour
  5. Wash with a mild shampoo.

Hibiscus Oil For Hair Strength

Ingredients

  •  3 tbsp ground hibiscus leaves & flowers
  • 8 tbsp yoghurt

Optional: aloe vera gel, coconut milk, honey

Method

  1. In a bowl thoroughly mix 3 tbsp ground hibiscus leaves, flowers and 8 tbsp yoghurt.
  2. Gently apply the mixture to hair and scalp.
  3. Leave for thirty (30) mins.
  4. Wash with a mild shampoo.

About Hibiscus Oil

Hibiscus Oil has many benefits, for skin and hair and can be combined with other essential oils. Hibiscus are fairly common in Guyana and the oil is easy to prepare. If you’re not keen on preparing the oil, you can always purchase the bottled essential oil.
