On this Mother’s Day, we shine the spotlight on the journey of Pansy Smith, a devoted mother whose love and dedication know no bounds.
EMBRACING MOTHERHOOD
Pansy became a mother on January 12, 2021, following the arrival of her precious bundle of joy, Royalty L Patterson.
From that moment, Pansy embarked on a rollercoaster of challenges and joys, navigating the complexities of balancing work and mom life while accepting the changes in her body.
Challenges have been a constant companion, from accepting my body changes, fighting to balance work and mom life, and constantly trying to do and be better for myself and kid. But the joy of seeing my child happy and being able to fulfil her needs and wants is joyous. In fact, hearing “I love you so much, Mom” or “Thank you, Mom” and looking into her eyes, I know it is true love.
MOMENTS OF PURE JOY
Among the countless cherished moments, Pansy fondly recalls to ThingsGuyana milestones like witnessing Royalty’s first steps and hearing her utter “Momma or Dada” for the first time.
“Seeing her grasp concepts like colours, numbers, and even remembering our names before the age of three fills my heart with pride.”
LESSONS LEARNED AND VALUES INSTILLED
Through the ups and downs of motherhood, Pansy has gleaned invaluable insights.
Motherhood has taught me to value myself more and to pause and reflect on a lot of things before I react, even if it is positive or negative.
She emphasises the importance of integrity, confidence, and kindness, instilling these values in Royalty as she grows.
Integrity, confidence, treating everybody with respect (while not tolerating disrespect), respecting those who respect you, not because you do good or be good to someone, they’ll return it, love who love you, last but not least, be kind.
NURTURING TRADITIONS AND CREATING MEMORIES
While still in the early stages of motherhood, Pansy looks forward to establishing traditions with Royalty.
“Starting this year, I envision special outings for brunch or dinner to celebrate Mother’s Day.”
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
To fellow mothers facing their own trials, Pansy offers words of encouragement:
Whatever you are going through, ALWAYS remember your little one is counting on you. If not for yourself, do it for them. They deserve it and so much more. The storm may be for the night, but joy comes in the morning, trust me, it’ll be better.
She underscores the importance of having a support system, urging those without one to reconsider bringing a child into the world.
A TRIBUTE TO MOTHERHOOD
As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us honour mothers like Pansy, the unsung heroes whose love knows no bounds.
To all moms out there, remember, you’ll always be your baby’s superhero. Keep up the good work because together, we’ve got this.
