August 8, 2024

Just days away from turning 24, Linisha Abel has already carved out a name for herself in the beauty industry, transforming her passion for nails and hair into a thriving salon business.

Linisha Abel, the founder of Linisha’s Glamazon

Born and raised in the village of Moraikobai, nestled along the Mahaicony River, this now 23-year-old came from humble beginnings.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS IN MORAIKOBAI

We never had much growing up, but we were still thankful for the little we had.

She expressed deep gratitude to her uncle, Trevor Jeremiah, a former teacher at St. Francis Primary School, and her aunt, Roxanne Sutherland, who provided unwavering support during her childhood.

Despite the hardships, Abel’s early life was filled with joy, thanks to her love for sports, especially running and swimming. She excelled at her secondary school sports, often advancing to the Champion of Champions and even Nationals.

I never got medals for running, but for swimming, yes.

FINDING HER PASSION

After graduating from Mahaicony Secondary School in 2016, Abel was at a crossroads. She applied for various government jobs and even considered a career in nursing, but fate had other plans.

“I never got any callback,” she admits, eventually leading her to reconsider her path. It was then that she turned her attention to her true passion—beauty.

According to her, she spent hours watching YouTube tutorials on how to braid hair and do nails. She even went on to practice on her siblings and anyone willing to give her a chance.

I knew to myself that someday I’ll be perfect in this, and I’ll open a salon and run a business for myself.

Her perseverance paid off, and today, she runs a successful salon under the name Linisha’s Glamazon. She offers a wide range of services, including knotless braids, Boho braids, hair colouring, lash extensions, acrylic nails, and more.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

Like any entrepreneur, this businesswoman faced her share of challenges, particularly in sourcing affordable, high-quality products.

Sometimes it’s hard to go all the way to Georgetown to pick up products, and that’s the only place you would find products cheap and at an affordable cost.

Despite these hurdles, she stated that she has seen significant growth in her business since its inception.

Asked about what makes her business different, this businesswoman posited that her commitment to customer satisfaction is evident in every aspect of her work.

When my clients come to the salon, I make sure they are comfortable and have a safe space.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

Abel’s vision for the future is clear—she plans to expand her salon and offer home services to cater to moms with young children and busy working women.

I want them to feel comfortable in their own home space.

Through it all, this Moraikobai native credits her fiancé, Alan Masiahdas, for being her rock.

“He taught me that giving up was not an option and was there for me every step of the way,” she says, expressing her deep appreciation for his support.

A MESSAGE TO FELLOW ENTREPRENEURS

Keep striving; you all will get to the goal you are aiming for. Never give up and always put God first.
