His dedication and hunger for musical excellence have not only made him the first in the Band Room to obtain a Performing Arts Degree in Music but have also opened new avenues for his future aspirations.

Sergeant Sparman, a father of two, has been an ardent devotee of his craft. His graduation, an exemplary feat, not only celebrates his academic triumph but also validates his unwavering commitment to the musical arts.

His remarkable skill set now positions him to serve as an Artistic Musical Director, Arranger, Transcriber, Composer, Musical Educator, Coordinator, Musical Drill Master, Panorama Arranger, and more.

Throughout his academic journey, Sparman’s passion for music has seen him master numerous instruments, showcasing an unparalleled versatility that has not only captivated audiences near and far but has also garnered recognition and praise within the Guyana Police Force, where he serves.

If you love to make it a career, then study it! But remember, there is no shortcut. You have to do the work. Music can be used as a hobby, and also it is a career opportunity.

His journey towards musical excellence was not without challenges, yet this Band Room rank perseverance and the invaluable support from the Guyana Police Force have been instrumental in his success.

My studies were exactly what I dreamt of studying. All I had to do was study, which brought great results. There were no options for failure because I was hungry to make myself, my family, and organisation proud.

Sparman’s dedication does not stop at personal achievements. His goal is to contribute meaningfully to society by empowering youths academically in the field of music.

His experiences as the Musical Director for the Buxton Pride Youth Steel Orchestra Band and his work with young people at the New Opportunity Corp have led him to believe that nurturing and educating the youth in the right way can ensure productivity and continuity in the future.

I had a terrific time working with the ensemble since I was able to teach and empower the youth about music. I suggested and hired a handful of youths to join the Guyana Police Force Band after winning multiple Panorama Championships. Also, I worked with young people at the New Opportunity Corp. If you educate and nurture them in the right way, then you can be confident that productivity and continuity will not fail in the future.

Breaking historical grounds as the Musical Director by leading the Guyana Police Force’s Steel Orchestra to two consecutive championships at the National level, Sparman now looks forward to implementing initiatives to foster musical arts and culture within the Force and beyond.

For Guyana, I am happy to use my knowledge at the University level, which will help to empower youths academically in the field of music. This will create job opportunities and even boost music in schools.
