Nick Hunter, the richest and most confident kid at his school, has his eyes set on the captaincy of his school’s cricket team. But Nick’s attitude rubs his rival, Juamrion, the wrong way.
When Nick and Jumarion are forced to work together for a shot at glory in the Kiddies Cricket tournament and a chance to go to the T20 World Cup, they try to put their differences aside, but it is just too much. As the team loses games, Nick blames everyone.
Will he ever learn there is no “I” in team?
A Game of Friendship is a chapter book that goes beyond the boundary of cricket.
Speaking with ThingsGuyana, the mentor of the kids, Wanda Layne, explained that the kids started writing the book last November.
We started writing this book last year November, we would have completed the first draft in December. Reach on Sundays because we have a programme called Fun Stories and these kids would be attending and I would read stories, they would answer questions, they would discuss the plots and I realised they are very eager and they interested in this.
A friend of mine launched a book and came on Zoom, and after that, the excitement was really, really high. It was a group effort. At first, we weren’t sure what we wanted to write about, but then we knew about cricket and the upcoming Cricket World Cup. Some of the kids are cricket enthusiasts, so we took it from there.

One of the young authors, Shaquon Wilson, shared his experience working on the book.
I tried to do my schoolwork before we met and all the things I decided to do so when we come, it doesn’t affect my schoolwork.
The other authors include Khess Allen, Sinach Allen, Kaiya Daniels, Ariel Layne, Jenell Thomas, and Jayden Wilson.
