The Newly Built Leisure Inn Hotel In Berbice Is One Of A Kind!
On the 15th July, 2018, the doors of the Leisure Inn Hotel in Berbice was opened. Many were amazed and astonished by this first class building as they discovered the careful, modern details of both the exterior and interior of the hotel. This definitely satisfied the proprietors desires of raising the bar of service offered in Berbice. At the opening ceremony, Mayor of New Amsterdam Winifred Haywood said it was an honor to have such a facility adorning the New Amsterdam main road, “I am happy that such a thing could happen now and it is timely”. Amenities Of The Leisure Inn Hotel
- Rooms: There are 30 luxury rooms including 2 rooms to facilitate the differently abled customers and an elevator. Guest rooms offer a refrigerator, kitchenette, microwave, bathroom and air conditioning.
- Pool: There is a pool and poolside bar on the third floor. You can relax at the poolside with the family or with your friends and have a cool day or afternoon.
- Restaurant: The building cocoons an exquisite restaurant called ‘Keuken’, the Dutch word for ‘cuisine’ and set to cater for an array of delicacies, most of them that are not offered at the local eateries or hotels. The cafe/restaurant will also operate 24 hours a day.
- Chef: The head chef is Surinamese and has been cooking professionally for over 20 years. He said he is looking forward to tantalizing the patrons’ taste buds with his delicious meals. This international chef was previously employed at the Marriott Hotel in Suriname and will offer a mostly “French – European Cuisine”.
- Rental Space: The building holds three-rental spaces.
- Sports Bar & Privileged Club: The sports bar is on the fifth floor and there is a club for adults. At the opening of the club, Naila Blackman and KI and the Band were there to entertain the crowd.
- Conference Room: There is a conference room to hold business meetings for companies who desire to get the best out of their work team. Events, parties and weddings can also be kept.
- Boardroom: There is a private dining area in the restaurant which can be transformed into a boardroom in order to facilitate smaller meetings and workshops.
Building The Leisure Inn
Kesha Phillips, one of the owners, explained that the hotel was built in stages. She said the foundation was laid some nine years ago, “We did our foundation and we had that for a while then we signed a contract with Home Designs and a few years later we continued from there”. However, she explained, that work on the hotel was stopped for a period of time. According to Phillips, her husband has always wanted to open a business in New Amsterdam. She added that in Berbice, accommodation options were limited and the food standard was another issue. She said, “The food criteria was something that we looked at whenever we come to Berbice. I am a late person; I travel late and when you get to New Amsterdam, there is nothing but Chinese food most of the time. We therefore wanted to do something different, hence the push to have the restaurant running for 24 hours with a variety of dishes”.

The Leisure Inn Hotel In Guyana
The building boasts five floors from the ground up. Despite the great height of the building, it is comfort friendly to everyone including those who are disabled. Ms. Phillips said, “They (business places) are supposed to be able to accommodate disabled persons, that’s why we have the ramp…, that’s why we have the side door, doors are wider as well, we have the elevator as well to accommodate them”. The disabled are well catered for if they desire to stay at the Leisure Inn.
As for the customer service, Phillips said, “If workers don’t give good service, it doesn’t matter how investors try they will always bring your standard down”.
