Fuelled by an unwavering passion for helping others, 32-year-old Mary Ann Forde has emerged as a formidable force with aspirations to become a “mega businesswoman.”
In fact, she is determined to leave a lasting legacy through her commitment to helping others.
CHILDHOOD CHRONICLES IN HAGUE SETTLEMENT
Forde, whose roots trace back to Hague Settlement, West Coast Demerara (WCD), attended the Hague Primary. She later progressed to Leonora Secondary.
Upon completing her secondary education, Mary Ann dove into the world of healthcare through an 18-month Medical Technician programme with the Ministry of Health (MoH).
First, it was my intention to become a nurse, but after applying to be a part of the programme, I wasn’t selected, but saw the Ministry of Health issued an article with different medical programmes to join, and that’s where I applied for the Medical Technician programme.
MEDICAL TECHNICIAN JOURNEY
A medical technician for the past 11 years, Mary Ann’s dedication to the field is driven by her innate desire to help others. She is currently attached to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH).
It brings me satisfaction to see how a person’s face would light up after assisting them. Going to medical outreach just to assist others brings me joy, knowing that I can give my service to help others.
This medical technician volunteers with the Specialist Medical Outreach Team (SMOT). When asked about her journey thus far, she said:
It has been very rewarding to interact with others and learn about their backgrounds. In connection with the Blood banking service, I was exposed to going on different outreach.
BEYOND MEDICAL: A MEGA BUSINESSWOMAN IN THE MAKING
Beyond her medical career, Mary Ann harbours ambitions of becoming a mega businesswoman.
Currently, she is laying the foundation for this dream as a small business owner specializing in clothing sales.
Her entrepreneurial spirit mirrors her resilience and determination, marking a new chapter in her life.
As she looks toward the future, she offers advice to aspiring professionals. She urged them to give their best in assisting others and to put their best foot forward in their chosen fields.
I would like to give my advice to the younger professionals that it’s important to give your best to assist others where you can and to put your best foot forward in your field of choice.
